Children’s Church Newsletter

Hey Friends!

So many of you have reached out to me with love and encouragement — emails and messages of your prayers, thoughts, stories. And God keeps bringing it to mind that some of you may be interested in knowing about the children’s ministry at my church that I have the humbling privilege to direct?

Each month I write a newsletter for those who’d like to be updated on the children’s ministry — I’m including the December Edition below for you to have an idea of the content. If you’d like to be included in the monthly email list and you’ve received this blog update to your email, just click “reply” and let me know and I’ll add you to the list of recipients. If you’re not a subscriber to The Giving Place and you’ve just stumbled across this post on the web you can let me know you’d like to be added by direct messaging me on whatever outlet you found this post through (Facebook, Instagram etc.) or commenting below.

Your prayers are precious, powerful, and treasured! Thank you for considering supporting this ministry through prayer!

“If God is in your plans — make them BIG!”
~ Morris Plotts

Joy to the world — our Lord has come!

No?… Not joy?… Exhaustion seems a better fit to wrap up this year?

Our enemy would love nothing better than to suck the joy of the Lord — which is our strength — right into the whirlwind vortex of the holiday season and year-end responsibilities.

But God. If we prepare Him room — if we intentionally make room for Him each day — we will have joy. Joy cannot help but come with Him — it is a fruit of His Spirit and a gift He freely, generously offers us! One moment of experiencing — embracing — His presence with us… His love toward us… and our energy is renewed. He makes us new. This is one of the miracles of His coming to us!

“A thrill of hope… the weary world rejoices!”

Fall on your knees. Christ IS the Lord.

And our children? This is the perfect time to demonstrate to them how to daily, moment-by-moment “make room” for the LORD as most important, necessary, life-giving, joy-bringing — when the world and our to-do lists scream at us otherwise.

Theme of the Month: Prepare Him Room

Our time together will be focused on:

  • Week 1 — What making room for a baby looks like.
  • Week 2 — Enjoying and reflecting in our lives God’s example of *celebrating* Jesus’ arrival + presence on earth.
  • Week 3 — Who is this God we are making room for? What is His Name? What do the names He is given mean for us?
  • Week 4 — He is the Gift, the Giver, and how we can make room for Him by giving.

Memory Verse for the Month: John 18:37

“For this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth.”

(This is a long verse — and I have selected only a portion of it for group memorization. Please feel free to help your child memorize the entire verse!)

Prayer for the Month: Based on Ephesians 2:22

“And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.” ~ Ephesians 2:22

Lord Jesus, thank You that You are Emmanuel, God with us. Help each one of us, and every one of our children, to make room in every way, in every area of our lives, for You. We know that unless You “build the house” — we will build in vain. *We* are Your workmanship. Thank You for Your faithfulness to complete the work You’ve begun in us. May we be built together to become a dwelling in which You live by Your Spirit. You are welcome here.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Resource of the Month: Just a Minute

I cannot possibly write a recommendation strong enough for this book.

It’s a super easy-to-absorb-and-remember way of understanding our eternal impact on children, and an invaluable insight into understanding all people of all ages.

Full of true, short(not more than a page and half) “just a minute” stories from people’s lives explaining how a brief moment in childhood impacted them for life. The perfect “devotional”/small-sections type of book that is truth-packed-excellence for this busy time of year.

Reading this will make you a more Christlike parent/grandparent/aunt/uncle/friend/church member/voice of love and truth to kids you don’t even know but cross paths with briefly etc etc.

5 star. Buy it. Borrow it from the library. Gift it to all your friends.

I could go on — you get the point. 😉

So much love to *you*! Thanks for reading and letting me share another bit of my life with you — directing this children’s ministry is one of my greatest joys!
